High-Efficiency Furnace Installation

An 18-year-old single-stage furnace died in a January snap. Same-day sizing, venting to code, heat the same night.

High-Efficiency Furnace Installation

The old furnace had been short-cycling for two winters. On a −28°C morning it stopped lighting. We treated it as a replacement, not a parts hunt, because the heat exchanger was at the end of its life.

A heat-loss look at the two-storey home showed the original unit had been oversized. We put in a two-stage furnace with a variable blower, new wall venting, and a condensate safety switch.

By evening the house was back to 21°C on both floors. The homeowner left with rebate forms, a filter size, and a thermostat schedule that uses the low stage most of the night.

The hard part

Tight mechanical room and venting that no longer met code for a condensing furnace.

What they have now

Even heat, quieter nights, and a labour warranty behind the manufacturer coverage.
